A Code of Good Practice is a set of written rules which explains how people working in a particular profession should behave. Whilst it is not law, it is a code that should be complied with. This will ensure fair and equitable practices, processes, policies and procedures. A Code of Good Practice is often confused with a Code of Conduct. A code of conduct defines how a company’s employees should act on a day-to-day basis. It reflects the organization’s daily operations, core values and overall company culture. As a result, every code of conduct is unique to the organization it represents. A Code of Conduct also lays out the rules of the Company, and what will happen in the event that there is non-compliance with any of the codes of conduct laid down by the Company. This is a vital piece of the Disciplinary, Grievance, Sexual Harassment and Bullying Policies. These Codes of Good Practice are once again based on South African labor legislation, but they have been written so they can be applied to any business on the global platform.

Every country has a constitution of some sort that outlines the government’s structure. A constitution is simply the set of rules that govern how power is distributed and exercised. In other words, these rules structure the government of a state.

It is important to familiarize yourself with your country’s Constitution in relation to human rights in employment. (This is an excerpt from South Africa’s Constitution, just to give you an idea of what you are looking for.)
